Community Garden

Posted by Marie Pollard | October 23rd, 2018

PAWS is developing the concept of a nation-wide network of Community Garden Projects. These unique projects are to be developed ‘for the people, by the people,’ to turn previously under-utilised sites into productive non-profit enterprises dedicated to bringing organic food sources back into urban, rural and remote areas.

The development of each site will be considered in an individual manner so as to maximise the potential of the land and to benefit the community in the most socially positive way possible.

According to the nature of the sites and the needs of the community, some will be developed into native Australian bush food projects, others will specialise in medicinal herbs, exotic fruits and vegetables, while others will act as non-profit propagation nurseries to create a continuous supply of plants and seeds for other developing projects.

Members of the community will also be able to purchase chemical free plants and seeds for a donation, that will help maintain and develop each community garden project.

On a nation-wide scale, ‘Community Garden Projects’ will provide valuable clean, green produce for the sustenance of both humans and many species of wildlife.
