PAWS supports McCartney and Yoko push for 'meat-free Mondays'
Beatles legend and famous vegetarian Paul McCartney was joined by John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono Monday to launch an appeal for "meat-free Mondays."
McCartney said going vegetarian, even for just one day a week, was good for the environment because of research suggesting it cuts greenhouse gas emissions from the world's livestock population.

Callous attack: duck shot by crossbow
THE RSPCA is appealing for help to catch the person or people who shot a duck with a crossbow and callously left it to die. Warning: graphic picture inside.
The white-feathered duck was found alive, with an arrow protruding from its body, on Saturday morning at Kingsbridge lake in Butler.
The arrow is thought to have been lodged in the animal’s body for several hours.
Clarke's rodeo stance receives seal of approval
MORE public figures such as Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke should speak out against rodeos to raise awareness of their cruelty, says animal protection group Animals Australia.
Cr Clarke said in The Sun-Herald this month he thought rodeos were "horrifying" and "human entertainment at the expense of animals" after attending one at the coast two years ago.

Full horror of Japanese whaling exposed
A THIRD of the whales harpooned by Japan in the Antarctic last summer were pregnant, it was claimed yesterday.
Conservation group Humane Society International (HSI) said Japan's own figures, revealed in secret documents discovered at the International Whaling Commission meeting being held this week, showed the "true, disgusting nature" of the country's whale hunting.
GM debate is over, farmers told
Australian-produced genetically modified (GM) crops will be on Australian supermarket shelves by 2015, the National Farmers' Federation congress in Brisbane has been told.
Former chief scientist of Australia, Dr Jim Peacock, said the time for debating GM crops was over, as Australia risked being left behind.
Dr Peacock said 125 million hectares of GM crops worldwide have been planted in the past 13 years with no reports of adverse environmental or health effects.

Mayor expresses horror at 'cruel' rodeo

Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke thinks rodeos are "horrifying" and "human entertainment at the expense of animals".
He said he attended his one and only rodeo after being invited to one featuring horses and bulls at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre two years ago.
