Escaped steer pulled from harbour

Posted by Jo Louise | December 1st, 2009

An escapee steer which fell into Darwin Harbour while being loaded for live export has been recaptured by mariners.

Darwin Port Authority asked Ben Wall of Workboats Northern Australia to investigate after receiving reports of a floating steer. Mr Wall and his crew found the animal exhausted and close to drowning, and he said it could have been treading water for up to four hours.

The steer, which has avoided drowning and crocodiles, now faces a long trip to Asia for slaughter.
